Stormwater Permitting Unit 

The Stormwater Permitting Unit of the Wetlands and Stormwater Branch is responsible for the development, planning, and implementation of statewide stormwater control policies, strategies, and rules designed to protect the surface waters of North Carolina from impacts of stormwater pollutants and run-off volumes.  The Unit handles permitting for industrial, municipal, and post-construction (for development projects) stormwater programs, as well as provides technical assistance to the regulated community, engineers, industry, citizens, and local governments.

NPDES Stormwater Program

The National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) stormwater permitting program regulates three types of activities: Industrial activities that fall in one of 10 categories; Municipal Separate Storm Sewer Systems (MS4s); and Construction activities that disturb an acre or more.

State Stormwater Programs

The State Stormwater Permitting Programs regulate site devolopment and post-construction stormwater runoff control.  Areas subject to these permit programs include all 20 coastal counties, and various other counties and watersheds throughout the state.  Areas subject can be found using the Interactive Stormwater Permitting Map Viewer.  What does Phase II have to do with State Stormwater?
